136 Years of History
From frontier store to landmark senior living
What began as Francis Dampier's general store in 1890 has transformed through six remarkable chapters: the Orange Hotel (1907), the grand Hotel Inverness (1926), the Colonial Hotel (1959), the legendary Crown Hotel (1981), Crown Court (2004), and today managed by Vera Healthcare Florida LLC (DBA Vera Assisted Living, Inverness Downtown) — the innovation and ideas partner bringing modern care to this 136-year-old landmark.
In the 1920s Florida boom, the building was physically lifted, split in half, and moved to its current location on Seminole Avenue. A grand spiral staircase was trucked 450 miles from South Carolina and installed in one piece.
Today, Crown Court stands as one of the oldest hotels converted to assisted living in Florida — a landmark where history meets modern compassionate care.
